【吃貨必備】關(guān)于“吃”的一些小習(xí)語

在英語世界里，有很多詞匯明明掛著食物的名堂但是卻和本來的意思大相徑庭，欺騙了不少無知的吃貨~ 明明寫著吃，但是卻吃不到的詞匯，但在我們平時實際的口語表達(dá)中還是挺實用的！其實乍一看這些詞都是大家所熟悉的，但就是可能不會想到這些詞組成起來會是這個意思。然而這些詞也是比較容易被大家接受的。接下來我們來舉一些相關(guān)的例子：

Bite your tongue 咬舌自盡（kidding~） 忍住不說
　　Meaning: you stop yourself from saying something because you realize it might cause offense or be hurtful.
　　Example: I bit my tongue many times during my last debate against my classmate.

Chew the fat 閑聊
　　Meaning: to chat or gossip
　　Example: I enjoy meeting my friends to chew the fat.

Coffee/tea break 小憩
　　Meaning: to take a short break from work to rest and drink coffee, smoke a cigarette etc..
　　Example: I usually have a coffee break around 11.30.

Dish the dirt 嚼舌根，散布流言蜚語
　　Meaning: to spread gossip about someone
　　Example: My cousin likes to dish the dirt on people she doesn’t like, but how could this be right and make people think highly of her?

Cup of tea 喜歡的人或事
　　Meaning: used to describe something one enjoys or does well
　　Example: I really enjoyed watching this movie, it was just my cup of tea.

Eat dirt 忍氣吞聲，忍辱負(fù)重
　　Meaning: to act humble, accept another’s insult or bad treatment
　　Example: He bullied his employees and made them eat dirt.

Eat humble pie 賠罪，道歉
　　Meaning: to be humble, admit one’s error and apologize.
　　Example: Everyone in my uncle’s company has to eat humble pie when my uncle proves they are wrong.

Out to lunch 發(fā)瘋似的，心不在焉的
　　Meaning: to behave crazily or madly
　　Example: I always thought my roommate acted a little out to lunch.

Have a full plate/have a lot on plate 自顧不暇，很多事忙不過來
　　Meaning: have a lot to do.
　　Example: Career and family, it seems like my uncle has a full plate, but he actually balances it very well.

To be spoon-fed 被過分寵壞的，被填鴨式教育的
　　Meaning: It can mean to be treated in a way that discourages independent thought or action, by overindulgence or provided with knowledge or information in an oversimplified way.
　　Example: To be honest, I think I am not that kind of girl who could get a good grade by spoon-fed education.
