Task1:Is it more important to be polite and have good manners?
It’s more important to be polite and have good manners. First, if people are not polite they will embarrass other people and the relationship among friends will not last long. For example, last month my friend Tommy and I went to another city. We took the bus and it was pretty quiet on the bus. And then he had a phone call. He picked up the phone and began to talk so loudly that other people were disturbed. but My friend Tommy didn’t stop. So I felt really embarrassed. I didn’t want to be friends with him anymore because of his impolite behaviors. And also if a person is polite, we can get better grades. Because teachers are more willing to help those people to always say thank you after they get help from teachers.
Task2:Agree or disagree that the rich help the poor or not?
Give specific details and examples to explain your answer.
I disagree that the rich people should help the poor. It’s not that rich people’s responsibility to help the poor. People are poor because they don’t work hard. They usually fool around. Take my uncle as an example, he’s not hard-working at all. He usually has out with his friends you know like going to bars or playing cards on weekdays. He doesn’t even want to get a job, so he’s a pretty poor person. The second reason is that when the rich people do not help the poor. The poor people have to depend on themselves so they will work hard and develop a kind of ability that will be beneficial for their future.
Task3:
The university decides to cut off parking area nearby the teaching building. The first reason is to free up the space for plantation. The second reason is to reduce the number of the cars on campus so it will be safe for students. The man in the conversation agrees with the school’s plan. First, school can save the space to plant some flowers or grasses in order to provide more green space for students to take a rest or read books on the lawn.Second, closing the parking lots can reduce the cars on campus and ease the traffic to decrease pollution. It’ll be more convenient for students to walk on campus.
Task4:
In the reading, flaming means that people tend to be influenced by the way how the information is presented. In the lecture, the professor takes two examples to explain it.The first example is that when you get up in the morning. If the weather forecasts that there is a 40 percent possibility of rain, most people would probably take an umbrella out.But people would not if it says 15 percent possibility. The second example is that when you caught a cold, and goes out to buy medicine. One kind claims a 90% success to cure, and another one claims 10% failure to cure. People are more likely to accept the former one, because people are more willing to accept active point than negative point.
Task5:
In the conversation, the student can’t afford his rent after moving off campus. There are two solutions to the problem. The first one is to find a roommate to split the rent. The second one is to work in the restaurant downstairs to pay the rent.I think the first solution is a better choice. Because living with a roommate can be more fun. They can listen to music, watch movies togetherin the room and when they meet problems they can have a discussion and exchange ideas to work out the problems.
Second, if the man chooses to work in the restaurant, he has to work on Friday and Saturday nights, he will not have time to hang out with friends to attend social activities.
Task6:
The lecture talks about how birds make self-adjustment to prepare for migration.
1)First, some birds may experience physical change. For example, to prepare for long distance flight, migrating birds have to store sufficient amount of energy to sustain their flight and to reduce the times they have to stop over for rest. So they would eat a lot more than they usually do to reserve energy in the form of body fat.
2)The second adaptation is behavioral change. During migration journeys, some birds that usually live on their own begin to act more socially. They form into a group with other birds so they can protect better themselves as a whole from predators.
