口語
1. Talk about an activity you especially enjoyed when you were a child. Describe the activity and explain why you enjoyed it. I’ve been taking a reading club since childhood and I’m a big fan of that. There are some reasons for my like. Firstly, it's an activity to increase my knowledge base. I like literature, especially those related to history. Therefore, when I'm focusing on these books, I'm not only working on literature, but history, which is necessary in better comprehension of our nation. Moreover, it's an easy access to new friends. Take my best friend Tim for example. We met in reading club when I was still eight, and as we shared the same interest, we soon became good friends. And now, we’ve been friends for more than ten years. Marvellous, right?
2. When people travel, some enjoy visiting places they have never been to before. Other people prefer to return to places they have already visited. Which do you prefer? Explain why. Well, it might be a good idea for the old and the weak to stay in familiar places where the weather is suitable and there is less chance to get them affected by diseases in changing weather or location, but it’s not the case for the young adults who are excited about changes. Firstly, new places bring us diverse activities. For example, people who are used to swimming in hot summer days may also enjoy skiing in cold winter days. Secondly, unfamiliar places bring us new visions. It’s a pity that people living in the equatorial area have never seen snow. And also it’s a great surprise to swim in Australia when it is winter in the north hemisphere.

The state university is planning to post off-campus job opportunities on its newspaper. One reason is to make students aware of the job opportunities available off campus. More importantly, this new information will help students find jobs that are more relevant to their majors. The woman in the conversation agrees with the plan based on her and her friends’ experience. It is very hard for students to find a suitable job on campus, especially for first-year students. The number and range of jobs offered on campus are often limited.Because of the large number of students, on-campus jobs are occupied very quickly. Without off-campus job information, students will have to take jobs unrelated to their majors. One of her friends majors in law but only gets a job in the university’s book store.Obviously, this kind of job does not contribute to her future occupation.

He saw a zoom lenses in the newspaper of cheap price of brand B, but when he came to ask the clerk, he found that it didn’t match the camera of Brand A. So he ended up buying zoom lenses of Brand A, even though it was more expensive.

The man is going to attend a wedding of his friend, but he does not have a suitable suit to wear. There are two possible solutions. The first one is to ask Samuel, his friend to make sewing for him to make the legs and sleeves shorter, but she is not an expert. The second one is to buy another suit at the shop, but it is expensive. However, the suit may be needed in the graduation ceremony and job interview since he is a graduate. From my perspective, I would suggest him to choose the second solution. Though altering the size of the suit can save him money, it is still very bothering and takes some time. Buying his own suit may cost him some money, but this suit can be worn for many formal occasions, such as an interview and the graduate ceremony. So, it’s worthwhile.

There are two ways plants have adapted in order to survive in Alpine environments. The first is to grow low to the ground. Take alpine shrub for example. It is only few centimetres tall to the ground and therefore, it survives the strong wind on the mountain top. The second way is to have special leaves to prevent the loss of water. Take mountain cranberry for example. It has waxy leaves to seal water so as to avoid evaporation.
