學(xué)英語掌握多少詞匯才夠用？
學(xué)英語需要多少詞匯才夠用呢 說法紛紜，我們最常聽的就是，活用幾千詞足夠了。但是這只說對了一半，日常溝通或許幾千詞足夠了，但是它對于外語學(xué)習者來說并不現(xiàn)實，我們在生活中幾乎找不到只會幾千詞并且能把這幾千詞掌握好的人，反倒是詞匯量很大的人對常見詞的掌握會更好。
這與學(xué)習的反饋機制有關(guān)。一般來說，詞匯量大的人閱讀聽力中遇到生詞少，容易產(chǎn)生正反饋，有利于增加輸入。而輸入的增加使得他們有更多的機會接觸到各種常見詞用法，對這些詞的理解也會更好。但對于詞匯量比較小的人來說，他們在閱讀和聽力中會經(jīng)常碰到生詞，非常打擊學(xué)習熱情，在這種情況下要做到持續(xù)大量輸入是很困難的。正所謂“取乎其上，得乎其中;取乎其中，得乎其下”。

詞匯量不足會極大影響閱讀和聽力的輸入質(zhì)量。舉個例子，
下面是馬丁·路德·金的著名演講 I have a dream 演講稿片段。由于當時面對的聽眾是廣大受教育程度不高的黑人底層民眾，演講稿會相對比較“平易近人”，以確保每個人都能夠聽懂。但這樣的演講稿仍然出現(xiàn)了不少“超綱詞”。
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. 上面加粗的大部分單詞詞頻都落在前10000詞以外，換句話說，如果你的詞匯量不過萬，那么你會有很大幾率聽不懂馬丁·路德·金的演講。

因此，僅僅掌握幾千個常用單詞并不夠。我們需要的是更大的詞匯量。那么，多大的詞匯量才算“夠用”呢?
下面是詞匯量測試網(wǎng)站 www.testyourvocab 統(tǒng)計出的英語母語人士詞匯量分布表：
可以看出，24歲左右的成年人詞匯量中位數(shù)接近25000，考慮到詞匯測試的誤差，這一數(shù)字應(yīng)該落在20000到25000區(qū)間。
因此，真正夠用的詞匯量應(yīng)該盡可能接近或達到英語成年母語者的中位數(shù)水平，即在兩萬到兩萬五左右。當然，詞匯積累并不是一件一勞永逸的事情，每個人的詞匯量會隨著英語學(xué)習時間的增加而不斷增長，這是一個持續(xù)一生的過程。
