托福聽(tīng)力：地質(zhì)類話題考點(diǎn)解析

例題：

舉例一篇關(guān)于講Kettle lakes 的文章

文章內(nèi)容是這樣的：

Uh, Other things that glaciers can do is ,uh, as they retreat, instead of deposting some till ,uh, scraped up soil, in the area, they might leave a big ice block and it breaks off and as the ice block melts it leaves it leaves a depression which can become a lake,. These are called kettle lakes. These are very critical ecosystems in this region, um because they support some unique biological diversity, these kettle lakes do.

The Great Lakes are like this, they were left over from the Pleist -from the Pleistocene glaciers , the Great Lakes used to be a lot bigger as the glaciers were retreating , some of the lakes were as much as a hundered feet higher in elevation. The beach of a former higher stage of Lake Erie was about fifty miles away from where the beach -the current beach of Lake Erie is right now. So I just wanted to tell you a litle bit more about glaciers and some positive things that we get from climate change. Like the ecosystems that develop in these kettle lakes, and how we can look at them in an enviromental perspective

這個(gè)題目屬于名詞解釋題， 答案跟glaciers 有關(guān)系。 原文說(shuō)they might leave a big ice block and it breaks off and as the ice block melts it leaves it leaves a depression which can become a lake,. These are called kettle lakes.答案為L(zhǎng)akes formed when pieces of glaciers melt. 冰川這個(gè)詞應(yīng)該是托福學(xué)生都熟悉的， 再起次就是Retreat 跟 melt 有同義替換。

二． How did the glaciers affect the Great Lakes?

C. They reduced the biodiversity of the great lakes

Great Lakes like this　這句話是個(gè)提示詞，其次就是used to be,這個(gè)詞也很關(guān)鍵，聽(tīng)到這兩個(gè)詞，基本上定位就有了， 根據(jù)文章: 過(guò)去Great lakes 比較大因?yàn)楸�川溶解了所以海拔高了。海拔這個(gè)次托福學(xué)生必須要知道 elevation所以題目答案為they made the great lakes deeper.
