在雅思的兩個(gè)輸出項(xiàng)，口語和寫作當(dāng)中，經(jīng)常會(huì)需要用到關(guān)于領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力方面的素材，所以筆者選出 On Leadership片段，以期給大家提供和分析一篇有價(jià)值的素材文章。

On Leadership選自1985年3月份的《大西洋》雜志(The Atlantic)，內(nèi)容主要談及領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人應(yīng)該具備的品質(zhì)，文內(nèi)遣詞造句比較簡單樸實(shí)，但有極具內(nèi)涵，可以成為非常好的口寫素材。

[1] What is leadership? Its qualities are difficult to define. But they are not so difficult to identify.

[2] Leaders don’t force other people to go along with them. They bring them along. Leaders get commitment form others by giving it themselves, by building an environment that encourages creativity, and by operating with honesty and fairness.

[3] Leaders demand much of others, but also give much of themselves. They are ambitious – not only for themselves, but also for those who work with them. They seek to attract, retain and develop other people to their full abilities.

[4] Good leaders aren’t “long rangers”. They recognize that an organization’s strategies for success require the combined talents and efforts of many people. Leadership is the catalyst for transforming those talents into results.

[5] Leaders know that when there are two opinions on an issue, one is not bound to be wrong. They recognize that hustle and rush are the allies of superficiality. They are open to new ideas, but they explore their ramifications thoroughly.

[6] Successful leaders are emotionally and intellectually oriented to the future – not wedded to the past. They have a hunger to take responsibility, to innovate, and to initiate. They are not content with merely taking care of what’s already there. They want to move forward to create something new.

[7] Leaders provide answers as well as direction, offer strength as well as dedication, and speak from experience as well as understanding of the problems they face and the people they work with.

[8] Leaders are flexible rather than dogmatic. They believe in unity rather than conformity. And they strive to achieve consensus out of conflict.

[9] Leadership is all about people consistently to give their best, helping them to grow to their fullest potential, and motivating them to work toward a common good. Leaders make the right things happen when they’re supposed to.

[10] A good leader, an effective leader, is one who has respect. Respect is something you have to have in order to get. A leader who has respect for other people at all levels of an organization, for the work they do, and for their abilities, aspirations and needs, will find that respect is returned. And all concerned will be motivated to work together.

(一) 用典

第四段”lone rangers”是典故，源自美國過去一度流行的電視連續(xù)劇 The Lone Ranger(孤膽騎警)。此片寫一個(gè)穿紅襯衫戴面具的森林騎警仗義行俠的故事。本文引用此次重在強(qiáng)調(diào)lone一次，可以理解成“獨(dú)行俠”的意思。原文意指：好的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)不是“獨(dú)行俠”。

(二)并列結(jié)構(gòu)

本文使用了大量的并列結(jié)構(gòu)，短語與短語的并列，句子與句子的并列，以及段落與段落的并列。雖然都是并列結(jié)構(gòu)，但是表意不一。

(1) 表遞進(jìn)

第三段They seek to attract, retain and develop other people to their full abilities. 三個(gè)動(dòng)詞并列并非互不相關(guān)，而是表示出一個(gè)遞進(jìn)的過程。可理解為：他們設(shè)法吸引人才，留住他們，使他們充分發(fā)揮才能。

(2) 表目的

第六段They want to move forward to create something new. 兩個(gè)不定式短語貌似并列實(shí)則平行，后則實(shí)際上表示前者的目的。可以理解為：他們要前進(jìn)，要?jiǎng)?chuàng)新。

(3) 表強(qiáng)調(diào)

第七段Leaders provide answers as well as direction. As well as結(jié)構(gòu)做連接時(shí)強(qiáng)調(diào)前面部分，所以可以理解為：領(lǐng)導(dǎo)不僅給出指導(dǎo)，也給予具體解答。

以上結(jié)構(gòu)方面的使用非常簡單實(shí)用，可以直接在自己的習(xí)作中練習(xí)使用。短語和用詞亦同樣精彩，可供借鑒。
