有哪些我們常犯但渾然不知的漢譯英錯(cuò)誤？

今天的主題是：forms of repetition in Chinglish。

在Chinglish中有很多表達(dá)是非常重復(fù)累贅的，

他們一般以以下三種形式出現(xiàn)：

1. simple restatement

(the same idea presented twice in different words)

2. self-evident statement

(one idea implicit in another)

3. mirror-image statement

(the same idea presented first in positive form, then in negative)

我們一一來舉例，平時(shí)說話啰嗦的人值得一讀，比如天秤座。

1 simple restatement：

此種現(xiàn)象是同一句話里用不同的語言兩次表達(dá)同一個(gè)意思

典型例句：

We must arrive at the station on time and be punctual.

解析：on time和be punctual(punctual：adj. 守時(shí)的)都表示準(zhǔn)時(shí)到達(dá)。

更多例句：

★ We must practice economy and reduce unnecessary expenditures.

？ 解析：practice economy(例行節(jié)約)和reduce unnecessary expenditures是同一個(gè)意思。

★ We must be clear whether a mistake has really been made and if it has, we must be able to tell whether it is a major or a minor one and whether it is serious or not.

？ 解析：“whether it is a major or a minor one and whether it is serious or not”中major or minor和serious也是表達(dá)的同一層意思。

★ In industrial production we should maintain a policy of safety first, with prevention of accidents as our main concern.

？ 解析：“我們要優(yōu)先考慮安全”與“把零事故作為主要考慮”同義。

2 self-evident statement

此種現(xiàn)象是前文的意思已經(jīng)很明了，無需后文加以說明

典型例句

We must arrive at the station on time in order to catch the train.

解析：如果是在一個(gè)要去趕火車的語境下，準(zhǔn)時(shí)抵達(dá)火車站肯定是為了趕火車，不然是去趕飛機(jī)?

更多例句

★ To increase soil fertility, we should promote widespread scientific application of fertilizer and greater use of farm manure.

？ 解析：To increase soil fertility就像to catch the train，在中文里可能說出來沒有什么不妥，但是在英文里就顯得很累贅，用肥料的目的肯定是為了提高土壤肥力。

★ We must further strengthen the building of national defense in order to enhance our defense strength.

？ 解析：“strengthen the building of national defense”不是為了加強(qiáng)國防還會(huì)為了什么?

★ It is essential to control environmental pollution so as to protect the environment.

？ 解析：減少pollution當(dāng)然是為了保護(hù)環(huán)境，同義，重復(fù)。

3 mirror-image statement

此種現(xiàn)象是正面說一次，反面還要說一次，顯得累贅

典型例句

We must arrive at the station on time and not be late.

解析：準(zhǔn)時(shí)到了就是不要遲到，你戀愛了我自然你知道你不是單身狗了，不必啰嗦，一個(gè)道理。
