Recent decades have witnessed the advances in science and technology , which promote the appearance of some lifelike toy dogs researched and developed by some high-tech companies. This has fuelled the controversy over the discussion whether the pet dogs can be replaced by them. Although the vivid toys have had a number of characteristics and properties of pets, they cannot take the place of the joy brought by pets.

All of the people who have the experience of raising dogs know the reason why we keep them is they have real feeling and emotion just like our human being, but not for they are like toys. First of all, dogs are loyal and devoted, and their masters are all of their little world. It is so touching and unforgettable that in the movie Hachico Hachico, an Japanese Akita, had been waiting for his master for so many years until his death at the place where he last saw his master’s leaving. Another important point is that dogs are usually fuzzy and fluffy, and we can feel their warm when we hug them. This feeling can hardly be given by a cold electronic toy.

On the other hand, it is also reasonable that some people think these electronic toys can replace the pets. Firstly, it is not impossible that the current version of toy dogs can bring users fun. For example, when users hug the toys, they can hear the sound of servo motor rotation. Besides, these toy dogs are much cheaper and save more trouble than the real ones. They only cost 120 US dollars, in addition to which they save the following expenditure on feeding, the time on dog walking, and the trouble of giving them a bath or brush. However, if people regard feeding, cleaning and walking as trouble, they cannot feel the joy and affection brought by the lovely dogs. 

In brief, despite the merits of electronic toy dogs do exist, given that the real purpose of raising a dog is to have emotional communication and companionship, we still have ample reasons to believe that they cannot replace pet dogs.
