However, after taking many factors into account, I believe that expressing one’s own idea through social media is not a good choice. My reasons are as follows.

At the individual level, expressing ideas without limitation on social media will give rise to irresponsibility among the young. Social media, as its name indicates, is a highly self-governed community, so social media provide us a place where we can say anything we want and post any photo we take. In this regard, it is hard for us to take into account what our remarks will bring about to society. Specifically, it is not unusual that people like to share their immature or improper thoughts on the social media, like casting abuse on the people they don’t like, or post words that may arouse controversy such as discrimination against the minority and so on. If young people are expose to these irresponsible remarks, they will confuse and even pick up the wrong value.

When it comes to the whole society, opinions on social media will trigger uncertainties and rumors. The prosperity of our society will not be achieved without the joint effort from the people. However, if  the social media repeatedly posts the opinions on the dark side of our group or the society, we may find it hard to sit still and concentrate on our study or work. Even worse, those rumors may be the last straw to break down a group if there is not any immediate clarification. There was a very thought-provoking case in my country in 2007. After a tsunami taken place in our nearby country, people saw a piece of information that salt can protect us from the nuclear release. Once the news was released, people rushed to supermarket and fought for the salt in stock. However, the news turned out to be absolutely a lie. In this case, unverified personal opinions on social media trigger uncertainties and even cause unsteadiness in a society.
