In the contemporary society, a large amount of advertising have penetrated into every corner of children’s daily lives. A trend which raises considerable concern among many people. Views regarding this issue vary greatly from person to person. In my opinion, although this tendency brings about some benefits, the drawbacks in terms of children’ physical and psychological development are more obvious.

There are some serious problems lies in the psychological aspect. The negative influence of mass media upon children is manifold. The worst is that advertisements are replete with exaggeration. These visual and auditory stimuli are just a lure children have difficulty resisting due to their inability to distinguish between right and wrong. As a result of long-run noxious influence, some children are often misled by the overstatement from mass media. Take TV advertisement as an example. The exaggeration and fantasy of advertising fill the children’s minds with so confusing ideas that they find it hard to detect the falsity of them. Consequently, some dishonest producers generally utilize TV advertisement to promote their fake goods, thus inducing children to become consumers and doing harm to our society as well.

Moreover, advertisement usually include some inappropriate information which are likely to cause children to develop bad habits. When children see something interesting, they only think try it which causes from their imitative predisposition. For instance, children try smoking for becoming gentleman, and smoking is harm to health. Besides, product advertisements make children become obsession and they continue to hassle their parents until they get the product.

Some people might argue on the grounds that advertisements can benefit people, especially young people, they can gain a wide variety of information from multitudinous advertisements in order to enrich their lives. It is understandable for these people to think so. However, I tend to think that advertising can pose more potential threats to the development of a certain age. Physically speaking, children are immature in terms of growth. The advertisement with fake information is likely to result in a series of undesirable outcome such as the deterioration of physical condition. It has already happened in many countries including China. It is not a rarity to read the reports many Chinese children who purchased some albumen powder in order to keep fit have developed some kinds of muscle wastage resulting from fake information of advertisements and even committed suicide.

To summarize, children -aimed advertisements can bring more negative effects. Instead of promoting them, the government can attach tighter regulations in the procedure of examination and supervision. Furthermore, children should enhance the awareness of self-protect when the inappropriate advertisements appear.
