碰到地圖類文章時，我們應該注意以下幾個問題。首先，是方位詞的使用，需要使用north, south, west, east這些方位詞，而不能直接說上下左右，否則方位概念表達模糊。比如，我們想要表達A在B的北部，有兩種情況。一是，A和B是獨立的兩地，互補包含，我們可以說A is to the north of B；二是，A在B的內容，我們則說A is in the north of B。注意區(qū)分介詞的使用，精準表達概念。

其次，我們應該著重觀察隨著時間的推移，哪些部分面積變大了（be enlarged），哪些部分面積變小了（be reduced），哪些部分原來沒有的后來被建造了起來（be built/ be constructed），哪些部分原來有的后來被拆除了（be removed），哪些部分改變了（be replaced with/ be turned into/ be converted into/ gives way to），哪些部分沒有改變（remain unchanged）。在表達時切忌使用appear、disappear或become等詞，因為房子或設施并不是自己出現(xiàn)、消失或改變的，而是被人們建造、拆除、改造的�；�于此，我們不難發(fā)現(xiàn)地圖題的另一特點，即動詞常常需要使用被動語態(tài)。

接下來，我們以雅思《官方指南》上的一道地圖題為例，給出范文，請大家特別關注方位詞、描述變化的用詞、以及被動語態(tài)的使用。

　　The three figures illustrate the changes of West Park Secondary School in the years 1950, 1980 and 2010.
　　Overall, it is clear that the school increased in size over the years, and the car park was constructed and then expanded. By contrast, the playground decreased in size, and the sports field was built and then reduced in size.

In 1950, the school was built along a main road next to a number of houses. There was a farmland to the southwest of the school and a playground to the south of the school. In 1980, the houses were removed in order to make way to a car park and a science block. The farmland was converted into a sports field, while the playground remained unchanged.
　　In 2010, the school main building and the science block remained unchanged, but the car park was expanded to cover the original sports field. As a result of this, the original playground was divided into two parts: a smaller playground and a smaller sports field.
