題目：1. Public libraries should only provide books and should not waste their limited resources on high-tech media such as software, video, or DVD. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
　　分析：話題出現(xiàn)了過于絕對的only。在認可圖書的重要性之后，不妨再提出高科技媒體的優(yōu)勢：儲存信息需要的空間少( compact information storage); 查找信息更快( more efficient data retrieval ); 具有娛樂性的用戶體驗( offer entertaining user experiences)等。

2. People think that public libraries will be replaced by computers in our homes. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
　　分析：在家里用電腦看書：可以為我們帶來方便并且節(jié)約時間；電子書是數(shù)碼格式(e-books are in digital format), 所以在電子書里查找關鍵詞更簡單也更快捷( searching for keywords in an e-book is much easier and quicker than in a traditional book); 看電子書時還可以調整字號來適應我們的閱讀習慣( change the font size to suit our reading preference).

但公共圖書館不僅擁有大量的書籍與期刊(not only contain a wealth of books and periodicals), 還提供了良好的學習氛圍( provide an atmosphere conducive to learning ), 盯著電腦屏幕( staring at a computer screen), 也不像閱讀印刷的書籍那樣適合人們的視力與閱讀習慣（does not suit our eyes or reading habits as well as reading printed books）。而且即使Apple今后推出更薄更輕的平板電腦，也無法完全代替公共圖書館為我們帶來的社區(qū)感( cannot fully replace the sense of community that public libraries can bring us)。

3. Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money because computer technology is now replacing their functions. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
　　4. Some people think that the government should establish free libraries in every town and city. Others, however, believe that it is a waste of money because people can access the Internet at home to get information.
　　5. Some people think that the age of the book is gone. All the information will be presented by multimedia tools such as video, computer and television. What is your opinion?

以上的話題都是類似的，思路拓展可以互相借鑒和參考。可以總結為：
　　多媒體工具的娛樂性更強more entertaining，信息量更大offer more information to their users，而且比紙質書更環(huán)保more eco-friendly than paper books。

盡管如此，紙質書不像電視和電腦那樣容易導致視覺疲勞 paper books are less likely to cause eyestrain than television and computers, 而且有很多人喜歡紙質書的質感many people fine the texture of paper books pleasing, 較輕的重量 even iPad mini is heavier than many books on the market,更便于攜帶的特點 have better portability，油墨香the scent of the ink，甚至于書架的典雅外觀 the elegance of bookcases。因此盡管多媒體技術發(fā)展迅速，書籍對很多人仍然具有吸引力traditional books still hold appeal for many people in spite of the rapid developments in multimedia technology.

The purpose of traditional libraries is to store and provide access to paper books. However, I disagree that only providing paper books would be the best way for public libraries to serve their users in the twenty-first century.
　　Public libraries are funded with their cities’ tax money so they should try to meet the needs of the local residents. In the past, library users mainly relied on paper books for information. Today, however, multimedia resources, such as computer software, videos and DVDs, are playing important roles in people’s search for information. They are more interactive and are well suited to children whose attention span is not very long. Multimedia resources can also hold much more information than books. For example, the data of hundreds of paper books can be stored on a DVD. As many public libraries today lack space for the storage of paper books, multimedia devices can help libraries to increase their collection and supply of information. 
　　Another advantage of multimedia resources is that the key information in them can be easily founded with electronic search tools, while the key words and phrases in paper books are often hard to find, even with the help of indexes. As a result, the running costs of libraries providing multimedia resources tend to be lower than those of traditional libraries because book-based libraries have to hire more staff members to help readers to find the information that they need.
　　In spite of this, some library users may feel that paper books suit their reading habits better. They enjoy holding a book and turning the pages, or simply the texture of paper. Paper books are also less likely to cause eye strain for readers than multimedia reading devices.
　　In conclusion, I believe that good public libraries should provide access to multimedia resources while continuing to provide users with a wide selection of paper books.
