IELTS Speaking: complex structures?

Students often worry that they need to use "complex structures" in the speaking test. But what is a complex structure?

簡(jiǎn)單句：

A. Some students like to study in the mornings.

B. Juan and Arturo play football every afternoon.

C. Alicia goes to the library and studies every day

并列句：

A. I tried to speak Spanish, and my friend tried to

speak English.

B. Alejandro played football, so Maria went shopping.

復(fù)合句：

A. When he handed in his homework, he forgot to give

the teacher the last page.

B. The teacher returned the homework after she

noticed the error.

C. The students are studying because they have a test

tomorrow.

D. After they finished studying, Juan and Maria went to

the movies.

并列句和復(fù)合句就是所謂的復(fù)雜結(jié)構(gòu)，我們可以看出，復(fù)雜結(jié)構(gòu)并不復(fù)雜。

考官建議：

Here's my advice: stop worrying about the need for "complex" grammar. Instead, focus on expressing your ideas well. As you explain your ideas in detail, you will naturally produce longer sentences which contain a variety of grammatical features.
