This is a special award presented at thediscretion of the Laureus World Sports Academy which ispresented only in exceptional circumstances to mark a unique achievement thatstands out strikingly in the history of sport and sets a new benchmark forsporting prowess. The recipient will be a sportsman or sportswoman who hasre-shaped the boundaries of sport and set new standards for those who follow.

Won Wimbledonfor the second time, defeating Roger Federer in the final in five sets. It washis seventh career Grand Slam title and his victory meant he replaced RafaelNadal as world No.1. He also won the ATP Finals for the third time in a row. Itwas his seventh victory of the year, during which he only lost eight times in69 matches. Won the Laureus Sportsman of the Year Award in 2012.

This may encompass asporting performance by an individual or team which has extended the boundariesof human achievement or has defied impossible odds. In exceptionalcircumstances it may also reflect the contribution made by an individual or agroup, possibly over several years, which has made a significant and positiveimpact on sport.
