The remarkable progress of society embodiesnot only in the prosperity of economy, but also in the explosion of information.New concepts and ideas have been emerging one after another, which profoundly influenceall walks of life including the field of education. Faced with such a trend, someschool authorities require their teachers to take courses every 5 years in orderto keep abreast of the times. Opinions are divided and personally speaking, I ama big fan of this policy. My reasons and examples are given below. (88 字)

Firstly, taking courses on a regular basis isconducive to updating teachers’ teaching methodology. The evolution of people’sperception of the nature of education demands that the old--‐fashioned wayof educating should be always updated and improved. In the courses, teachers aregiven the opportunity to learn to employ the new and more efficient teaching methodologies.For example, in the past, a good teacher was deemed as someone who could successfullycram the knowledge into the minds of students and help them get a high score inexams. But today, people begin to realize the importance of inspiring students’potential and motivation. (102 字)

Secondly, updating teachers’ knowledge by takingcourses regularly makes sure that the knowledge imparted to students is not leftbehind the times. The rapid development of science and technology proves wrong whatwas considered right before time. Thus, the teachers who still hold onto the out--‐of--‐date knowledgeblock the way of students’ access to the truth, which deviates from the duty ofteachers. For example, it was long believed that there were 9 planets in solar system,but in 2006 the scientists ruled out Pluto by classifying it as a dwarf planet.And teachers of astronomy are obliged to catch up with the latest changes of relevantknowledge. Admittedly, there are many other ways for teachersto update their knowledge such as reading books, searching relevant knowledge andinformation online and taking part in seminars. But the above--‐mentioned waysare only effective for those self--‐motivated teachers.Inertia and procrastination may well stop quite a few teachers from improving themselves.It is only school authority makes it mandatory for teachers to take courses regularlythat can increase their teaching capability overall. From what has been discussed above, we may safelydraw a conclusion that all school teachers should be required to take courses toupdate their knowledge. As an old saying goes, “it is never too old tolearn”. Being a teacher does not mean that he or she can stop learning.
