草原上 prairie dogs(土撥鼠) 的數(shù)量減少，人們就是否應(yīng)該把其作為保護(hù)動物引發(fā)了爭論。

1、農(nóng)民們覺得土撥鼠是 geological pests，因為它們和 cattle 競爭食物來源(也就是草地資源)

2、Prairie dogs 身上有 fleas, 會讓接觸它們的人們感染患病, do harm to human health.

3、Prairie dogs do not have enough ecological importance to deserve protection.

Listening

1、這種想法 outdated, 因為現(xiàn)在 cattle obtain food by feeding，就是 cattle 的食物來源變了，不會受到土撥鼠的影響。

2、Prairie dogs 身上的 fleas 在人身上不能存活。 Investigations have shown that in colorado,only 10 people suffered from illness by contacting the prairie dogs in the last 50 years.

3、雖然土撥鼠是 plant eaters, 但是它們也對草原生態(tài)系統(tǒng)有重大影響。例如 burrows made by prairie dogs represent a habitat for other species, 螞蟻什么 的(這里不太確定)。還有 prairie dogs 是它們的predators (例如fox)的食物來源 。 所以 the decline of the number of prairie dogs exerts a negative impact on prairie ecosystem.
