Task 1: Talk about a type of clothing that is popular in your country.

Sample

The first thing that comes to my mind would be the school uniform, so I will talk about that. All Chinese students are required to wear school uniforms so you see them everywhere. These are the few things I like about them. First, I think they are pretty good looking. My school uniform is blue with white strips. It makes you stand out from a crowed. And unlike the baggy uniforms from other schools in the area, our uniform fits really well, because the material it’s made of is very stretchy. Last but not least, it’s very comfortable. The uniform is made of 100% cotton, so it’s nice and soft. On top of that, it breathes really well so I can wear it during exercise.

Task 2: Do you agree or disagree University students should take part-time jobs.

I think it’s extremely important for students to have a part-time job for the following reasons. First, students can get real world experience from working off campus. Take myself for example, I waited tables part-time while I was in university. I learned a lot about how to deal with different kinds of people on that job. Also, working off campus means that students can get in touch with people that aren’t students. Students have a chance to establish a professional network before leaving school. For example, some schools require students to intern at a local business as part of the graduate requirements. And I know people who have secured permanent positions at these firms even before they graduated.

Task3

The school is planning to build an art history building.

R1: the theatre has limited seats

R2: it’s furnished with technological equipments The girl agrees.

R1: Last semester, she didn’t get to register the Chinese art history because the theater can only seat a few students.

R2:The screen that professor used before is too small. It’s hard to clearly see the details which is very important to arts.

Task 4

Reading: tree communicating means trees warn other trees to avoid insects’ attack through air.

Lecture: In the lecture, trees were divided into two groups. The researcher only put caterpillars in the first group. Surprisingly, the two groups of trees both produced poisonous liquid because the fist group sent signals to the second group.

Task 5

The woman needs to pay housing and tuition, but her budget is tight.

Solution1: She can work for part time in the library. In this way, she can read the books in the library. But she has a lot of homework to do. If she works in the library, she can only do her homework at night.

Solution 2: She can cook by herself instead of eating in the dinning hall. It saves money. Besides, she is a good cook.

Task 6

In the lecture, the professor talks about two types of business.

The first type is primary business. For example, if a company wants to sell cell phones, they will use advertisement to show customers how good the phone is, like how convenient it is.

The second type is secondary business. For example, if other companies also sell cell phones. To gain the market share, they will use secondary business which is to show how good the phone is by comparing with other brands, like the size of the phone, and it has various features.
