Variety — Captain Jack Sparrow has just planted a pirate flag in the 2017 movie season.

After a few false starts and delays, “Pirates of the Caribbean 5″ will sail into theaters on July 7, 2017, Walt Disney Studios said Wednesday. The latest rum-soaked installment in the Johnny Depp(約翰尼·德普) franchise has the date to itself, but faces competition from the July 14th release of “Fantastic Four 2″(《神奇四俠2》) and the June 30th debut of “Despicable Me 3.”（《卑鄙的我3》）

Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who got their sea legs with “Kon Tiki,”（《孤筏重洋》） will direct.

Disney has been getting way out ahead when it comes to dating its films. Last Friday it announced release dates for a quintet of untitled Marvel films, so get ready to enjoy the last of those come 2019.

“Pirates of the Caribbean 5″ was originally slated for a summer 2015 release date, but the film was pushed back over script issues. In the meantime, producer Jerry Bruckheimer ended his long-term deal with Disney last year and decamped for Paramount.

The Pirates movies have made $3.7 billion at the global box office（全球票房） and made Depp a superstar, so it’s easy to see why Disney wants to board the Black Pearl（“黑珍珠號”：《加勒比海盜》中的主角海盜船） once more.
